Position: Staff Engineer (Software/Multimedia)

Description:
We are looking to hire a contract engineer to ramp up on a major multimedia development project and eventually assume a lead status. The work covers development of multimedia technology for audio, video, gaming, e-commerce and web. The ideal candidate has experience with test driven Java, C/C++ development, audio/multimedia codecs and APIs and knowledge of MVC design and web delivery platforms. Must be proficient on associated tools including subversion, maven, Hudson, cruise control, JUnit, Ant and other tools of the trade, as well as able to handle end-to-end product documentation, training, quality testing and customer communication/support.
Agile/Scrum methodology is at the heart of our development cycle. We run short sprints and keep live systems available to partners and clients at all times. Virtual work is a must in the beginning; we need someone who can work effectively from home. We will stay in touch online daily and will meet face-to-face at least monthly. We value lean, efficient, results-driven engineering with less talk, more do. Read the white paper at www.37signals.com to get a flavor for what we cherish. You must be part of the team, we succeed or fail as a group - there are no heroes, only victories.
As a small shop, we all wear several hats and system administration work on some of our supporting tools will also be required. Back-end systems are Linux flavors and the candidate should be comfortable working from the command line and tweaking service configuration files. We'll be getting our hands dirty on a regular basis and we're looking for the right person to grab a shovel and dive in.
